Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, and raised in Greenbank, WV, I am a 1978 graduate of Pocahontas County High School.
I am a three-time WVU grad with Bachelor and Master degrees in Chemical Engineering as well as a Law Degree.

Prior to attending graduate school and law school, I worked in the military defense industry as a research scientist. During my years in the lab, I contributed to the development of an asbestos-replacement insulation material for use in solid propellant rocket motors. The material was deemed patent-worthy and is currently used in at least one active missile program. Link to Patent.
During my time in law school at WVU beginning in 1995, I completed work on my thesis for the Master Degree in Chemical Engineering program also at WVU. M.S. thesis titled Processes for Production of Coal-Derived Mesophase Pitch Microbeads was accepted in 1996.
